Writing retreat at Launde Abbey

Wednesday 24th July, 9:30 am to 4.30 pm

£35 (NB: this is an introductory price)

The aim of the retreat is to use dedicated writing time to progress our writing. The retreat is designed to support you in your writing projects, such as thesis, articles or books. This is a supportive environment, where most of the time is used for writing, all of us in the same room. There is time during the retreat to discuss our writing projects and share ideas. This will be a useful event for colleagues to meet up and talk in a relaxed environment.

How is the retreat structured?

The retreat starts on at 9.30, you have time to set up your writing desk and grab a coffee. We then set targets for the day and begin writing by 9.45. There are four writing slots, totalling over 4 hours of writing time. We finish writing at 4.30 and celebrate with cake!

All writing sessions and meals are in Launde Abbey. We use most of the time for writing, all of us in the same room. Brief scheduled discussions between writing slots often generate solutions to writing problems, develop drafts, lead to research-oriented conversations and provide feedback on writing-in-progress.

What is provided and what do I need to bring?

You will need to bring your own laptop and writing project. Extension cables are provided but there is no printer available.

We will go for a walk during the day so bring some walking shoes, and depending on the weather – a waterproof coat.

About 10 days before the retreat I will send out more details.

Where is Launde Abbey?

Launde Abbey  is a residential retreat centre in Leicestershire, 6 miles from Oakham and 13 from Leicester. Its a few miles off the A47, the link road between the M1 (Leicester) and A1 (Peterborough).

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There is ample parking a Launde Abbey.

Launde Abbey is in the countryside, so expect country roads.

The nearest train station is Oakham.

What refreshments are included?

Tea, coffee and biscuits are available during the day. A one-course light lunch is provided and there will be cake at the end of the day (I may have mentioned this already!)

How can I contact Alison with any questions?

My email address is alison@alisonhardy.work

I attended Rowena Murray’s Training for Retreat Facilitators in 2016 and the structure of this retreat is modelled on Rowena’s research.

What is the cancellation policy?

You will need to cancel a writing retreat at least a fortnight in advance of the day. After this date, you will not receive a refund but you are welcome to pass your place onto another writer – just let me know who is coming in your place.

Why is this an introductory price?

I have run residential writing retreats at Launde Abbey and numerous one-day retreats elsewhere but this is my first one-day retreat here. The price reflects that this is a new venture and I wish to have a feedback on both the venue and the retreat, and hopefully your recommendation!
